Boots is to stop supplying medication to care home residents in monitored dosage systems. Patient pack dispensing will be phased in from March 1, according to a letter sent to Boots Care Services customers in January.
The change brings Boots into line with recommendations from NICE and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society that call for the supply of medicines in original packs in care homes to be promoted as standard.
Boots will be providing an e-learning course for all care home staff who administer medication to support the change.
